This past Friday (March 13), songwriter Dan Mangan was due to play a show at Toronto's Danforth Music Hall before it became one of many events cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Even though nobody was there, Mangan and his band still performed their set in the empty venue, and tonight they're streaming it via YouTube.
The resulting film is dubbed Show to Nobody, and it comes with the hashtag #quarantunes. The stream will start at 9 p.m. EDT.
This show was part of Mangan's 10th anniversary tour for his album Nice, Nice, Very Nice. While the rest of the tour featured two sets — an acoustic run-through of the full album, followed by a full-band performance of other catalogue tracks — this is a six-song full-band set clocking in at 25 minutes.
Show to Nobody was filmed by Nigel McGinn, Cam Roden and Craig Small. Tune into the YouTube player below starting at 9 p.m. EDT tonight. If you enjoy the film, why not shoot Dan a text to let him know?
