After the dissolution of Chromatics last summer, vocalist Ruth Radelet has been carving out a path of her own, contributing to the Weeknd's After Hours remixes, recording for Kill Rock Stars' 30-year anniversary cover series and more. Now, she is going out on her own, with plans to release new solo music in 2022. As the artist kick starts her solo career, she's also shared her debut original solo single "Crimes."
She said of the Filip Nikolic-produced track in a release:
"Crimes" is about the pursuit of success at the expense of one's integrity, and the exploitation of others in order to get ahead. It's about the price we pay for our choices, and whether or not it's worth it. The question, "Is it easy to start over?" can be interpreted in two ways — it's meant to ask how it feels to continually reinvent yourself until you lose sight of who you are. It also asks how hard it would be to walk away from it all.
The song is due to make its stage debut this week when Radelet joins former Chromatics member Adam Miller — who has formed a new band, Inner Magic — at a free concert at Los Angeles's Zebulon on Thursday (April 21).
As we wait to hear more from Radelet's solo career, you can get your first taste by listening to "Crimes" below.
