Brandon Williams has been slowly casting out tracks from his upcoming album Suffer Summer releasing under his handle Chastity. The Whitby, ON-based musician released the record's third single, "Somersault," accompanied by a spicy new video.
The timely video sees the Canadian rocker flip off the powers that be with dizzying delight. "The first video put out for the trilogy was for 'Children,' based off a true story of police brutality in my town," Williams said in a statement. "In one of the final videos for it now, I wanted to make sure the gap was closed and the cop got what was coming."
Williams elaborated on the track's aim to find refuge amidst a crumbling world: "Trying to make a dream feel real. This is a song about the apocalypse, with lyrics written before this current apocalypse began. It's about finding a better world hidden away in your room, or someplace safe."
The video successfully endcaps the previously released "Pummeling" and "Dying to Live" off his upcoming album. Williams kicks off the song with the lyrics, "You smashed a pumpkin off a cop car window" — appropriate, as it coincides with a scene of someone doing just that. Recalling the artistry and rebelliousness of A24's Mid90s, the musician takes a playful approach to bring levity to a bleak subject matter.
Suffer Summer will arrive via Dine Alone Records/Deathwish on January 13 and will feature collaborations with Ontario's own Stefan Babcock of PUP and Alexisonfire's Dallas Green.
