Sleater-Kinney's Carrie Brownstein has been in the TV game for a while now, co-creating and starring in Portlandia and directing a handful of episodes for shows like Shrill and Mrs. Fletcher.
And now, as reported by Deadline, Brownstein will be making her feature-film directorial debut with Witness Protection, the previously-announced comedy starring Schitt's Creek's Annie Murphy.
The film was announced back in the summer of 2021, but no director was attached at the time. Witness Protection was penned by Schitt's Creek writers Rupinder Gill and David West Read, and the film's synopsis reads:
Witness Protection centers on a woman who has always defined herself by her romantic relationships, but when she is forced to enter witness protection, she must try to figure out who she really is for the first time while maintaining her cover and keeping the criminals at bay.
Brownstein's first foray into the film world was with 2020's rock star mockumentary The Nowhere Inn with St. Vincent, but this will be her first go at directing a full-length feature.
Murphy has been all over the place lately, starring in Kevin Can F*** Himself and most recently set to appear in the much-anticipated second season of Russian Doll.
