Toronto hardcore heavyweights Cancer Bats have released "Weird Punx," a B-side from 2022 album Psychic Jailbreak.
"We decided to save 'Weird Punx' for its own separate release because we felt it was a strong standalone track that really tells its own story," said vocalist Liam Cormier in a press release.
While Psychic Jailbreak explored and expanded on the band's sonic landscape post the departure of their founding guitarist Scott Middleton, the B-side revisits the Cancer Bats' roots: "The track is about growing up in a small town, where you and all your friends just hang out and dream about one day getting out and seeing the world," said Cormier.
"Weird Punx" is accompanied by a music video, which compiles footage taken of the band in Halifax, Moncton and Europe.
Cancer Bats will also be hitting the road this fall as Bat Sabbath — their Black Sabbath cover band — expanding their Canadian tour plans into Ontario and Quebec. The 12-show run will start in Barrie on November 20 and make its way east to Trois-Rivières on November 28, before finishing off in Toronto on December 2.
