Acclaimed rapper, poet laureate and music industry sage Cadence Weapon (a.k.a. Rollie Pemberton) has announced that he's hard at work on his next book.

While it has yet to receive a release date, the North American publishing rights to Ways of Listening have officially been sold to McClelland & Stewart — the Penguin Random House of Canada subsidiary that published his 2022 memoir, Bedroom Rapper.

Pemberton shared the news today on the social media site still preferably known as Twitter, describing the book as "a collection of essays about the joys of obscurity, the power of nostalgia, race's role in sound quality, what we're really searching for when we dig for records and more."

A blurb on Ways of Listening by literary management firm Cooke McDermid further described the personal and critical essay collection as "examining the ever-evolving ways we discover, create, and enjoy music — from the obsession with the 'mysterious artist' archetype, the magic of demo recordings, to the racial disparity in the remastering of music."

Bedroom Rapper was written alongside Pemberton's 2021 Polaris Prize-winning album, Parallel World, which remains his most recent LP.
