Sam Goldberg Jr. — of Broken Social Scene, Uncut, Bodega, Bionic, Yardlets and Hawaii renown — has released his debut solo single under the name Sam Jr.

"You Lock the Door, I Broke the Window" is a fuzzy slab of psychedelic rock, somewhere in the realm of Suicide meets early Black Keys, or Jesus and Mary Chain playing the blues.

In a press release, Goldberg described the single as a rebuff of societal stricture: "'Go to school your whole life so you can work for my company and I can ride around in my Porsche while you grind yourself into the grave for me, thank you.' I've always put myself in positions where I break the rules to see what's on the other side of life. Jump the fence, break the window, be a weirdo. Fuck the masses. Question what you're taught."

While there aren't any concrete details just yet, an album is expected to arrive in 2022.
