Big Thief have announced plans for their next album. The record is titled U.F.O.F., and it will arrive on May 3 via 4AD.
U.F.O.F. marks the band's follow-up to 2017's Capacity, though frontwoman Adrianne Lenker also released a solo record called abysskiss last year.
The new LP was recorded at Bear Creek Studios in rural Washington in a big "cabin-like" room, with engineer Dom Monks and producer Andrew Sarlo. The songs were apparently written quickly, sometimes just hours before recording, and captured to tape even quicker — some even on the first take.
"Making friends with the unknown… All my songs are about this," Lenker said in a statement. "If the nature of life is change and impermanence, I'd rather be uncomfortably awake in that truth than lost in denial."
The first song to be unveiled is the punctuation-less sort-of title track "UFOF." See the full tracklisting for U.F.O.F. and listen to the first single below.
Big Thief have also mapped up a series of 2019 tour dates in support of the new material. See those dates below, as well.
