The Antlers

"Director" (Dave Harrington remix)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jul 23, 2015

What has Nicolas Jaar's buddy Dave Harrington been up to since Darkside went on pause last year? Well, for one thing, he's just remixed the song "Director" by the Antlers.

The original song was a peaceful, soft daydream of a ballad. While this remix preserves the woozy quality of the original, it removes all of the sonic clarity. Here, the vocals emerge dimly from amidst a haze of swirling fuzz, echo, an abstractly amorphous textures. The soundscape grows increasingly chaotic throughout its six-minute-plus runtime, as jackhammer drums add a combustible volatility to the second half of the arrangement.

"Director" was on the Antlers' 2014 album Familiars. A version of it also appears on the recent live LP The Antlers in London.
