Due to the Recording Academy's collective finger resting squarely off the pulse, Grammy nominations and wins usually feel pretty uninspired and vaguely embarrassing — but still, Alvvays are a Grammy-nominated band, baby!
Among a slew of other nominees (a handful of which are pleasantly surprising, the majority of which are not), Alvvays are nominated in the Best Alternative Music Performance category for Blue Rev's "Belinda Says." They're up against the Arctic Monkeys, boygenius (who racked up an unsurprising six nominations), Lana Del Rey and Paramore, so the competition is pretty stiff in terms of obvious easy-choice winners — but still, cross your fingers, toes and whatever else you've got that Alvvays actually squeak in a win.
Taylor Swift, PJ Harvey, Billie Eilish, SZA, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, Janelle Monáe and a whole bunch of other people are nominated across a bevy of categories this year, with SZA leading the pack at nine nominations — feel free to scroll down and check out the exhaustive (though not complete) list of categories and nominations below.
This year's ceremony is happening Sunday, February 4, at Los Angeles's Crypto.com Arena. The show will be broadcast on CBS and Paramount+, with the annual Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony happening beforehand.
Prior to the 2024 show, the Recording Academy chopped the Big Four categories from 10 back down to eight nominees, with three new categories being added this year: Best Alternative Jazz Album, Best Pop Dance Recording and Best African Music Performance.
Last year's Big Four winners were Bonnie Raitt (Song of the Year), Lizzo (Record of the Year), Samara Joy (Best New Artist), and Harry Styles (Album of the Year). And while she was once again shut out of the major categories, Beyoncé made history last year by setting the record for the most Grammy wins of all time.
It was also revealed that Drake's 21 Savage collab Her Loss was submitted for consideration after Drake had previously withdrawn his music from consideration.
Check out the list of major to major-ish category nominees below, and you can see the entire list here.
