BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jul 19, 2016

Back in January, we reported that CIVL-FM would be handing out the inaugural round of the Fraser Valley Music Awards in 2016, and now the first-ever winners have been revealed.

The honours were given out during a ceremony in Abbottsford, BC, over the weekend (July 16) with live performances from the Kwerks, Matt Lowen & Rick Genge, the Sylvia Platters, Paravel, Mollys Reech, Ria Jade, Alexis Lynn, Quinn Sojonky, James Buddy Rogers, Saint Soldier, Kin, and Harpdog Brown.

The Fraser Valley Music Awards are funded with help from the Community Radio Fund of Canada and sponsored in part by Exclaim! Winners' prizes include studio time, feature media coverage, performance slots at summer festivals, career consultations with industry figures, and live show recordings.

All Nominees received a photo session package ($370 value each) from Photo Art by Simpson, while Long and McQuade awarded $50 gift cards to Harpdog Brown, Saint Soldier, Rick Genge, Cheap High, YOU SAY PARTY, John Welsh, Quinn Sojonky, Little Wild, Brennan Sinclair, We Hunt Buffalo.

Additionally, the Devon Clifford Music Foundation awarded $250 of Long and McQuade recording equipment to Quinn Sojonky, while the Fraser Valley Blues Society supplemented the Blues award to Harpdog Brown with a bye to the International Blues Challenge Finale being held on September 11 (with the winner continuing on to Memphis in January 2017).
