Musicians in British Columbia's Fraser Valley looking to get a leg up in their local scene and beyond will have a chance to receive a helping hand from CIVL-FM. Made possible with funding from the Community Radio Fund of Canada, the Abbotsford radio station has announced the inaugural Fraser Valley Music Awards, through which area artists will receive a variety of free products and services to put towards their musical careers.
Fraser Valley artists of all genres and ages are encouraged to submit their work online from February 1 to March 31. After being judged by a panel of jurors, winners will be announced at a FVMA gala in July, where they will receive services including studio time, feature media coverage, performance slots at summer festivals, career consultations with industry figures, and live show recordings. Additional events in the lead-up to the gala will include a battle of the bands, industry workshops, and the release of a compilation record featuring Fraser Valley music.
"In addition to superstars like Hedley or Carly Rae and various Juno and Polaris Prize nominees, a host of incredibly well-regarded Canadian musicians hail from the Valley," CIVL Station Manager Aaron Levy explained in a press release. "We want to both celebrate their work and help build the next generation of success stories by providing them with the tools to reach beyond the Valley."
Artists can submit their music to the jury through completing the submission form here. For additional information on submissions, sponsoring, volunteering, or becoming an official juror, the station can be contacted here.
