Toy Story character Buzz Lightyear is getting his own stand-alone movie, and the trailer for Pixar's eponymous Lightyear is here.
This film isn't about the Buzz Lightyear toy, but rather the actual astronaut who inspired the toy — so the animation here is a lot more detailed and human-looking than in Toy Story. We see Buzz blasting off into space, saying "to infinity and beyond," and unveiling his signature space suit. While Tim Allen voiced Buzz in the Toy Story films, here he's voiced by Chris Evans. Appropriately enough, the whole thing is soundtracked by David Bowie's "Starman."
Evans said in a statement, "The phrase 'a dream come true' gets thrown around a lot, but I've never meant it more in my life. Anyone who knows me knows that my love for animated films runs deep. I can't believe that I get to be a part of the Pixar family and work with these truly brilliant artists who tell stories unlike anyone else. Watching them work is nothing short of magic. I pinch myself every day."
Lightyear will be in cinemas on June 17, 2022. It's directed by Angus MacLane, who previously co-directed Finding Dory. Watch the trailer below.
