'Succession' Writers Used the Codename "Larry David" for This Season's Big Twist

If you're worried about spoilers, Logan Roy would tell you to fuck off

This week's episode of Succession delivered a moment we all suspected would come, but with shocking timing. In the third episode of the show's final season, Logan Roy fucked off forever, and HBO was able to keep the whole thing a secret — partly through the use of a sneaky codename.

Logan's death was apparently so top-secret, the dramedy's writers had to keep the info under lockdown even within the HBO offices. In order to do so, they used the codename Larry David ("Logan Dies," get it?) on the writers' room whiteboards.

Succession writer Georgia Pritchett revealed the top-secret information on Twitter following the airing of "Connor's Wedding." Apparently, the writers decided Logan's fate on January 22, 2022, and quickly decided to use the comedian as an alias.

"This was a tough secret to keep! We decided it in the #Succession writers' room in Jan 22," Pritchett tweeted. "So nobody found out we used code on the whiteboards. Larry David meant Logan Dies. So episode 403 said Connor's Wedding, Larry David. Mind you, that would also have been a great episode."

How much would we pay to see Larry David schmoozing at Connor and Willa's wedding? Who's to say. Considering his show Curb Your Enthusiasm is also ending with its upcoming season, maybe the two shows have more in common — beyond their production house — than we originally thought.
