'Stranger Things' Star and Calpurnia Singer Finn Wolfhard Is Making a Mockumentary About Instagram Fame

Finn Wolfhard is a busy guy. Not only is the 15-year-old actor and musician hard at work shooting the third season of Netflix's sci-fi smash hit Stranger Things, but he's also preparing for some upcoming live shows with his rock band, Calpurnia.

Speaking to Exclaim! in advance of the release of Calpurnia's debut EP, Scout, Wolfhard mentioned that he's adding "screenwriter" to his ever-growing list of pursuits, and that he's "trying to get a movie made, shows made and that kind of stuff."

When asked if he could divulge any specifics, Wolfhard revealed the premise of a TV show he's working on. "I wrote a show with my friends Josh and Lucas and their dad, about a guy who wants to be famous on Instagram and if he doesn't get a million followers in 30 days, he's gonna kill himself." (A million Instagram followers is child's play to Wolfhard, who has over ten times as many.)

It's a heavy concept, but Wolfhard isn't pivoting to gritty, teen drama, he insists. "It's a mockumentary series poking fun at the big YouTube side of social media influencers. I respect whatever job you have, but if you're also just doing anything for views… It's, like, heightened, up to fullest stakes."

"If you want that many followers so quickly, you should go yodel in a Walmart or something," quips Calpurnia bassist Jack Anderson.

Scout comes out June 15 on Royal Mountain Records.
