"Fifteen years ago I co-founded Reddit to find community and a sense of belonging, it's long overdue to do the right thing," Ohanian said via his personal Twitter. "I'm saying this as a father who needs to be able to answer his black daughter when she asks: 'What did you do?'"
He continued: "I've resigned as a member of the Reddit board, I have urged them to fill my seat with a black candidate."
Despite their participation in Black Lives Matter dialogue this week, Reddit has once again come under fire for the myriad ways that it's allowed hateful rhetoric to exist on its platform.
Ohanian announced that he will use future gains on his Reddit stock to make donations to charities that curb racial hate, starting with a $1 million USD donation to Colin Kaepernick's Know Your Rights Camp.

I've resigned as a member of the reddit board, I have urged them to fill my seat with a black candidate, + I will use future gains on my Reddit stock to serve the black community, chiefly to curb racial hate, and Iβm starting with a pledge of $1M to @kaepernick7βs @yourrightscamp
I believe resignation can actually be an act of leadership from people in power right now. To everyone fighting to fix our broken nation: do not stop. x.com/alexisohanian/β¦
