Noted far-right conservative Owens brought up what she called "a weird trend" of parents accepting and helping young children transition, and pointed to the example of Charlize Theron's seven-year-old daughter Jackson, who identifies as a girl.
"I am trying to understand this new Hollywood mentality where they just think their children now have the mental authority," Owens said.
Lopez responded by saying that he's "blown away too," and didn't want to be "lumped in" with celebrities like Theron.
"My God if you're three-years-old, I just think it's dangerous as a parent to make this determination then," he continued. "It's sort of alarming and my gosh, I just think about the repercussions later on.'
"I think parents need to allow their kids to be kids, but at the same time, you got to be the adult in the situation," he added.
Lopez later went on to say that he thinks hashtags like #BelieveWomen are "dangerous" because "people lie and sometimes those people are women."
"God forbid you have a son out there and a girl may have felt a certain way about a situation — dismissed, hurt, whatever — and is feeling vengeful and just decides to tell a certain story that's not exactly true," he said.
The controversial opinions have received plenty of backlash online from trans advocates and other LGBTQ+ allies.

If you’re not raising a child who is part of the LGBTQ+ community you should really be quiet. You don’t need to understand what you do not know. You both need to do better, your causal transphobia is par for the course. Christianity says leave judgment to god. @MarioLopezExtra
It’s okay @MarioLopezExtra. We’re here to help provide more education on what being #transgender means, the difference between #sexualorientation, #sex, and #gender... and a whole lot of other things. yahoo.com/entertainment/…
It's unfortunate that someone who is so involved with @GLAAD like @MarioLopezExtra would be so misinformed about #trans kids. I wish that he would reach out to @sarahkateellis for some guidance on the difference between sex and gender identity j.mp/2SUrxUt
Mario Lopez said it’s “dangerous” for 1. parents to support their trans kids and 2. to believe women who come forward with accusations of sexual misconduct. yahoo.com/entertainment/…
