Nerd auteur Kevin Smith has plenty of odd projects in the works, from the sausage nazi movie Yoga Hosers to his forthcoming reboot of Buckaroo Banzai, but that won't stop him from revisiting his old fan favourites. Following years of rumours surrounding a Mallrats sequel, Smith has confirmed plans to revisit the film. Rather than a movie, however, he's making a TV series.
Smith confirmed the news on radio station WMMR, saying the 10-episode series is "heading into production." While the Mallrats sequel was considered, and would have begun shooting earlier this year if things went according to plan, the film could not get financing. The television series was then proposed during negotiations.
Of course, it's worth taking this news with a grain of salt. No network has been confirmed for a Mallrats television series, and Smith was also quoted as saying, "I talk about things until they are true."
That said, we'd be happy to revisit the Mallrats characters in a television series. Here's hoping this one does come true.
