Kevin Smith Is Rebooting 'Buckaroo Banzai' as a TV Series

Love him or hate him, there's no denying that Kevin Smith has one of the most diverse resumés in Hollywood. Once he releases his Canadian teen horror comedy Yoga Hosers, the director is looking to reboot a cult classic adventure movie.

Released in 1984, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension is a truly odd project — and that's part of its lasting appeal.

The film's titular Buckaroo Banzai (Peter Weller) is a rockstar and surgeon who must battle a pack of evil aliens.

Whether or not Kevin Smith (or anyone, for that matter) can do justice to a remake is yet to be seen, but the director said he's hoping to reboot the franchise as a TV series.

Speaking on his own podcast [via io9], Smith said that he now has clout in the TV hero world thanks to directing an episode of The Flash.

He also laid out exactly how he'd make two seasons of Buckaroo Banzai on television. "Basically you just do the entire movie for season one, then season two you finally do the sequel we've all dreamed about, Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League."

Smith is reportedly shopping the idea to different networks.
