Before he was a film fest favourite with work like Hunger, Shame and 12 Years a Slave, Steve McQueen specialized in short film installations. One of those works, a black and white short from 1997 called Deadpan, is available to view now.
The work was recently displayed as part of a McQueen retrospective through Schaulager. The piece references Buster Keaton's iconic house-toppling clip from 1928's silent film Steamboat Bill, Jr., but it's been stripped of its comedic effect.
Watch a loop of the four-and-a-half minute clip below. Thanks to The Film Stage for the tip.
