Montreal polymath Yves Jarvis has announced his follow-up record to 2022's excellent The Zug: All Cylinders — from which we've already heard "The Knife in Me" and Exclaim! Staff-Picked "Gold Filigree" — arrives February 28 via Next Door Records.
The genre-agnostic singer-songwriter's many influences collide on the work — specifically, Serge Gainsbourg, Judee Sill, Sheryl Crow, Captain Beefheart, Jackson Browne, Throbbing Gristle, Ray Charles, Brian Eno, Fleetwood Mac and Panic! at the Disco are cited here. "I basically only listened to Frank Sinatra for a year," he shared in a release. "I wanted Sinatra's clarity — the way the songs exist without him, as real things. And he's the interpreter."
He adds, "I feel like this is the least contrived thing I've ever done."
Today, the artist born Jean-Sébastien Yves Audet shares the album's title track, which he describes as "an expression of faith as I barrel towards fate. RIYL: Speeding through a rainstorm without windshield wipers, Dionne Warwick, Judee Sill, Norah Jones, Marvin Gaye."
