Initially scheduled for last month, Winterruption YEG is bouncing back from Omicron shutdowns with the announcement of rescheduled festival dates — and the addition new acts to its already-stacked lineup of music, comedy, drag and more.
Edmonton's premiere winter festival proper will now take place from March 31 to April 3, with new bonus events on March 27 and April 8 and 9. It will take over a fleet of venues in the downtown core, including the Starlite Room, Rocky Mountain Icehouse, Temple, the Cask & Barrel, Soho YEG and the Downtown Edmonton Community League, as well as a series of free outdoor events at the Backyard YEG.
Alongside homegrown talent TEKE::TEKE, Braids and Art d'Ecco, Milwaukee rapper Alan Ward and international drag superstar Morgan Michaels are among the new additions to the Winterruption YEG bill.
As previously announced, TOPS, DijahSB, Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Charlotte Cornfield, Chastity, Boy Golden, Astral Swans, daysormay and DJ Shub are some of the many artists tapped to perform, with CBC's Because News host Gavin Crawford and Vancouver's Stop Podcasting Yourself bringing the laughs. A few of the performers were unable to make the new dates, including Diet Cig.
"All six Western Canadian winter festivals have performed the herculean task of rescheduling over a hundred acts, in dozens of venues to make this all work for safe and fun events," festival producer Brent Oliver said in a release. "We hope that two months from now we can get back to what we all love doing — experiencing live music again, together."
Tickets are on sale now here, with limited all-access festival wristbands available for $45. Individual shows range in price from free admission to $22 each.
Winterruption YEG patrons, venue staff, volunteers and artists are all required to have had at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. Negative tests will not be sufficient.
