Returning from its 2021 hiatus, Winterruption YEG's third annual winter festival will heat up downtown Edmonton from March 30 to April 2 with a stacked lineup of musical performances and live comedy.
TOPS, DijahSB, Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Charlotte Cornfield, Chastity, Boy Golden, Astral Swans, daysormay, Diet Cig and DJ Shub are among the artists tapped to perform, with CBC's Because News host Gavin Crawford and Vancouver's Stop Podcasting Yourself bringing the laughs.
The festival will take place in multiple local venues, including the Starlite Room, Rocky Mountain Icehouse, Temple Ballroom, Station on Jasper, Cask & Barrel, SOHO YEG and Downtown Edmonton Community League.
Further, there will be a series of free outdoor events showcasing emerging Edmonton talent at the Backyard — featuring pseudo-antigone and Exclaim! New Faves alum K-Riz.
Founded in 2019 in conjunction with Winterruption festivals in Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Regina, as well as Calgary's Big Winter Classic, Winterruption YEG transforms the bleak midwinter into a celebration of the interconnected arts and local business communities in Edmonton.
"Getting back to programming music and comedy downtown has been something everyone has been waiting for for nearly two years," festival producer Brent Oliver said in a statement. "This year's festival should be a celebration of the resiliency of Edmontonians and our arts scene, and one hell of a good time."
Tickets to attend individual shows will be on sale on Monday, November 15 at 10 a.m. MT, with prices ranging from free of charge to $22. Limited quantities of wristbands for admission to all four days of the festival will also be available for $45 each (plus service charges).
