Weezer Have Already Recorded Most of the Follow-Up to 'The Black Album'
"We just recorded the basic tracks, and there's no click, no grid," says Rivers Cuomo
Published Jan 24, 2019Weezer only just surprised-released The Teal Album last night, and The Black Album is just around the corner, but the veteran power-pop band have revealed that they already have yet another new album mostly recorded.
Speaking with Zane Lowe on the DJ's Beats 1 show, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo revealed that the band already have the bed tracks for the next LP done. And from the sound of things, it could be a little more organic than the slick, pop-friendly tunes we've heard from The Black Album.
"Our next album is not on a grid," Cuomo explained. "We just recorded the basic tracks, and there's no click, no grid."
When asked about a title, he said, "We don't have a real title, but the key word we have to inspire us at the moment is 'masterpiece.'"
This latest session was produced by Jake Sinclair, who also helmed 2016's excellent The White Album. Cuomo added that strings have been recorded at Abbey Road.

The Black Album comes out on March 1, and The Teal Album (which includes covers of Michael Jackson, Black Sabbath, TLC and more) is out now.
It's worth pointing out that, just because Weezer have been working on a new album, it might not necessarily come out anytime soon. After all, they first started talking about The Black Album way back in 2016.
Keep up. =W=@Weezer dropped #TheTealAlbum overnight. @RiversCuomo tells @zanelowe #TheBlackAlbum is coming and they've already recorded songs for the follow up to that project. Listen: https://t.co/onIcQtumX7 pic.twitter.com/se5FU7xhCm— Beats 1 (@Beats1) January 24, 2019
