A year and a half after We Are the City announced that they were working on a feature-length film in conjunction with their Violent LP, the BC-based prog-pop unit have announced they'll be premiering the film at Cannes.
A press release confirms that Violent, which was written, cast, directed and scored by We Are the City will be shown later this month as a Perspective Canada Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival.
As previously reported, the movie, made alongside the Amazing Factory, was filmed in and around Bergen, Norway, with a plot synopsis revealing that it centres on protagonist Dagny, who, while "in the midst of experiencing a catastrophic event, is remembering the five people who love her most." The narrative is said to cover some of the same themes as the band's album of the same name.
Down below, you'll find a trailer for the foreign language film, showcasing the band's score and a series of scenes, pleasant or otherwise, experienced by lead character Dagny. It is unclear if and when Violent will be shown on Canadian theatre screens, but you can also check out a recent video for its sister album's "Friends Hurt" down below.
