With a month to go before the scheduled release of Rick Ross's fifth album, his imprint, Maybach Music Group, has released Self Made ― Vol.2. While Meek Mill, Wale and Omarion are featured prominently, it's Ohio native Stalley that impresses the most over the course of his four tracks. On an album in which the grandiose is par for the course, Stalley is able to hit quiet birdies. "Actin' Up," produced by Rico Love and Earl Hood, and "I Be Puttin' On," produced by Toronto's Boi-1da and the Maven Boys, are the two best-produced tracks of the 14, but they sound underutilized, tarnished by vocal content deficiency. Beat Billionaire (who shone on Rozay's mixtape, Rich Forever, released early this year) tops the production credits with four tracks, including "Bury Me a G," which closes out Self Made Vol. 2 with the Boss laying down a macabre vision of his untimely departure from this Earth. In large part, this compilation is underwhelming ― there are exceptions, but the creativity is lacking and, to some degree, that's surprising, considering some of the talent on the roster.
