Vancouver's Non La Premieres Vulnerable Indie-Pop Scorcher "Yr Man"

Songwriter DJ On serves in a small army of Vancouver bands — Thee AHs, Maneater, TV Ugly, Megamall — and he's about to release the anticipated debut album Not in Love with his self-described "queerpop" project Non La. Ahead of the February 14 release, Exclaim! has a premiere of the song "Yr Man."

The track is a punchy indie-rock scorcher full of stomping drums, group-sung choruses and a feedback-soaked fuzz solo. But at its heart, the song is full of vulnerable displays of affection, including offers of tea and foot rubs.

According to a press release, Not in Love "may appear to be a study in unrequited love, but it is really a crash course in queer scene politics and navigating the world as a queer Chinese-Vietnamese Canadian in a mostly white, straight industry."

Keep that in mind as you listen to "Yr Man" below.

Not in Love arrives through Kingfisher Bluez. Non La will release the album with a release show the day after the album drops, on February 15 at Vancouver's Red Gate Arts Society.
