Toronto's 9Million Share New Mixtape 'GUSH,' Plot North American Tour

The shoegazers have a hometown show with Glitterer on July 18

Toronto shoegaze outfit 9Million — which originated as the solo project of producer Matthew Tomasi before growing into a seven-piece band — have a mixtape called GUSH out today.

GUSH is the follow-up to the band's debut mixtape, 2022's Between Us, and is said to be more experimental and electronic.

It's led by the single "Sun Spots." Rife with retro, heavily distorted guitar licks and mumbly vocals reminiscent of grunge bands of the '90s, the song perfectly encapsulates the band's signature sound thus far.

Tomasi, who is best known for his work producing and mixing for such acts as Ethel Cain and Nicole Dollanganger, said in a press release that he started this project "as a creative outlet for myself to explore new sounds and ideas that I wasn't touching on with any of my other projects or clients." He further described 9Million as "definitely a shoegaze band at the core, but constantly trying to manipulate and shift what that means to us."

Following the release of GUSH, 9Million go on the road supporting Glitterer. The North American tour kicks off on July 17 in Pittsburgh and includes one Canadian stop in Toronto on July 18 before wrapping up on July 27 in Morgantown.
