Tim Hecker Compiles Song Sketches on 'Dropped Pianos' LP

BY Josiah HughesPublished Sep 26, 2011

Earlier this year, Montreal sound sculptor Tim Hecker dropped one of the strongest albums of his career in the excellent Ravedeath, 1972. The album met excellent critical reviews, and even made the Polaris Music Prize long list. Now, he'll follow it up with a collection of "song sketches."

The record is called Dropped Pianos, and contains piano-based experiments that Hecker recorded in preparation for Ravedeath in 2010. As a press release explains, "This is not a new Tim Hecker album, but rather a peek behind the curtains into the working process. That these pieces stand on their own as compelling soundworks is a testament to the fact that Tim Hecker is at the absolute top of his game at the moment, and has been for years."

Dropped Pianos will be available on LP, CD or as a digital download on October 10 via Kranky . The album art is available above, while "Sketch 5" can be streamed below the tracklisting.
