With today being what would have been late rock hero Phil Lynott's 71st birthday, Thin Lizzy have announced an incredibly massive new box set. Called Rock Legends, the set — which also comes in honour of the band's 50th anniversary — will gather up a whopping 74 previously unreleased tracks from Lynott's celebrated group.
Arriving October 23 via UMC, Rock Legends spans Thin Lizzy's entire career, presenting fans with a 6xCD/1xDVD box set. Among the previously unreleased material are demos, alternate takes, live recordings and more, ranging from their earliest period to the band's later years.
The set is based around a collection of newly discovered tapes, and the tracklist was compiled by Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham and band expert Nick Sharp.
The DVD features a 1976 live recording from Rod Stewart's Night on the Town TV special and a 60-minute documentary titled Bad Reputation, which originally aired on the BBC in 2015. Both have not been previously been commercially available.
The box set also comes in a hard-backed book featuring replicas of Thin Lizzy's tour programs, as well as Phil Lynott's poetry books and four prints by Thin Lizzy cover artist Jim Fitzpatrick. There will also be another book that will include words from various Thin Lizzy members, plus testimonials from the likes of Slash, Lemmy, Joe Elliott, James Hetfield, Henry Rollins, Billy Corgan, Craig Finn and John McEnroe.
