The Weeknd's ill-fated TV show has reached its inevitable conclusion, as HBO has cancelled The Idol after one season.

"The Idol was one of HBO's most provocative original programs, and we're pleased by the strong audience response," said a spokesperson for HBO. "After much thought and consideration, HBO, as well as the creators and producers have decided not to move forward with a second season. We're grateful to the creators, cast and crew for their incredible work."

The Idol's first season was famously a mess from the get-go, with allegations of a toxic set. The season was shortened from six episodes to five, and the reviews were poor. The Weeknd even went so far as to grant a rare interview, just to defend the infamously cringey sex scene.
