The melancholic folk songs of Tamara Lindeman were made all the more beautiful by a band, including some veterans of Canadian indie rock — Will Kidman on guitar (Constantines) on guitar, Ian Kehoe (Attack in Black) on drums and bassist Ben Whiteley.
But whether it was Lindeman alone on the stage with her guitar, or surrounded by her bandmates, she had total command of the stage. She was the coolest one in the room, dressed in a brown pantsuit ("The bona fide suit from The Mask," she joked). Taking on the role of humble, self-effacing rock star — as contradictory as that may sound — she made it work. Lindeman strolled across the stage like she owned it. And for that hour, she certainly did.
It was a set full of beautiful moments, but the stand out may have been a brief a cappella rendition of Irish-American sister trio the Roches' "Love Radiates Around" at the start of their encore set.
