Last year, we learned the Juno Awards would celebrate their 50th anniversary in Toronto, and organizers have now set a new date for the milestone occasion.
Initially slated for March, the 50th annual Juno Awards will now take place on May 16, 2021, and will be broadcast on CBC TV, CBC Gem, CBC Radio One, CBC Music and globally on CBCMusic.ca.
The Junos' 50th anniversary will also feature the introduction of three new statuette trophies for award winners, inspired by those awarded between 2000 and 2010 that were designed by Shirley Elford.
Next year's awards will feature a gold version for Juno Award winners, a silver version for Special Award recipients and a gold and silver version for Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees. You can find a photo of the gold trophy below.
"It's been a decade since the Junos returned to Toronto and while this 50th anniversary celebration is certainly going to be different, we still intend on celebrating all of the artists who unite our country through their music," said Allan Reid, president & CEO, CARAS/The Juno Awards and MusiCounts, in a statememnt. "The impact of the pandemic has brought exceptional challenges, especially to our artist community but even through these challenging times our artists are resilient, and CARAS is here to recognize their achievements."
