Seminal indie pop balladeers the Softies are back with their first album in 24 years. The Bed I Made is out on August 23 through Father/Daughter Records, and the single "I Said What I Said" is out now.
Formed in Portland in the mid-'90s, the singer-songwriter duo haven't released an album since 2000's Holiday in Rhode Island, with Jen Sbragia remaining in Portland while Rose Melberg moved to Vancouver and played in many bands including Brave Irene and Knife Pleats.
The pair had periodically reunited for live shows over the past decade or so, and they eventually met up in Anacortes, WA, to record at the Unknown, the church-turned-studio co-founded by Mount Eerie's Phil Elverum. "I Said What I Said" preserves their signature soft sound focused on twin electric guitars and tight vocal harmonies.
Watch a video for the song below, and check out The Bed I Made's tracklist. Also below, see the Softies' tour schedule, which includes a lone Canadian date in Vancouver on release day. The album is available to pre-order here.
