TD Toronto Jazz Fest has announced the postponement of outdoor programming due to deteriorating air quality.

UPDATE (06/28): TD Toronto Jazz Fest organizers have announced the cancellation of outdoor programming for June 28, and will "continue to monitor this developing situation closely" for further festival days.

"The Air Quality Health Index for Toronto has reached High Risk conditions," festival organizers shared via the event's social media channels this afternoon. "We will be postponing our outdoor programming until further notice to ensure the safety of our guests, artists, crew and volunteers."

Wednesday programming affected by the postponement includes sets by KOKOROKO, Blue Moon Marquee, Aline's Étoile Magique, DJ John Kong, Malleus Trio and the Ostara Project at outdoor venues.

The evening's ticketed indoor performances from Snarky Puppy, Melody Gardot and Lauren Falls Trio will proceed as planned.

In a special air quality statement, Environment Canada advised that "very high levels of air pollution are expected to continue into tonight" due to smoke plumes from forest fires in Northeastern Ontario and Quebec.

Noting how "Air quality and visibility due to wildfire smoke can fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably from hour to hour," Environment Canada noted that "conditions are expected to improve for some areas on Thursday or Friday."

As of press time, Toronto's air quality is presently listed as the worst in the world by the World Air Quality Index.

TD Toronto Jazz Fest runs from June 23 to July 2. Earlier this year, the annual Banking on Climate Chaos report found that festival sponsor Toronto-Dominion invested about $29 billion US in fossil fuel projects.
