Strange Attractor

'Back to the Cruel World' (album stream) / "Real Dark Place" (video)

The Northern Ontario town of Sudbury isn't really known for turning out top-tier rock acts. But for punk rock lifer Jeff Houle, it's the perfect backdrop for his '70s-throwback pop act Strange Attractor, whose third LP, Back to the Cruel World, is streaming below ahead of its November 15 release through Mammoth Cave/FDH Records/Resurrection Records.

Conceived in the same lo-fi squalor as all good garage acts, on their newest release, Houle delivers an Angry Samoans-meets-Ty Segall sound filled with acidic riffs ("Anything"), pub-infected mod rock ("I'm Trying to Wake You Up"), and Guided By Voices pep ("Hot Dog Water"). There are also three songs with "shit" in the title, so there's that.

Check out the album in the player below, but not before checking out the band's upcoming tour dates around Ontario, which features horny noise mongrels Wrong Hole supporting on all dates. As an added bonus, we've also shared the band's new video for the track "Real Dark Place."
