Calgary's Sled Island Music & Arts Festival has announced its first wave of artists topping the 2023 edition, which was curated by Bartees Strange.
Running at multiple venues across Calgary from June 21 to 25, a small sample of the 200-plus act festival already features some heavyweight talent, including Osees, DEHD, Helado Negro, Akintoye, Emma Ruth Rundle (playing a solo piano set at Central United Church), Mannequin Pussy, Amindi, Haviah Mighty, SPELLLING, SUMAC, Liturgy, Sun Ra Arkestra, Water from Your Eyes, Sessa (formerly of Yonatan Gat), THICK, Pelada, BIG|BRAVE, Suffering Hour, 1876 and more.
In addition to Helado Negro, Bartees Strange's curatorial selections for the fest include Pom Pom Squad, Gulfer, KAINA, Sen Morimoto and Massai.
Passes for the event are on sale at Sled Island's website and at Luke's Drug Mart at 112 4th Street NE. Today (January 31) is the final day to save 20 percent on passes.
Stay tuned for announcements about the full lineup — which includes additional headliners, special events, comedy, film, visual art and more — in the months to come.
