Sister Ray Announces Sophomore Album 'Believer,' Shares Title Track

It's the follow-up to the Toronto-based songwriter's 2022 debut 'Communion'

Sister Ray — the remarkable solo project of Alberta-raised, Toronto-based singer-songwriter Ella Coyes — is back with news of their forthcoming sophomore record, previewed today by its title track.

Believer lands April 4 via Royal Mountain Records. It's the follow-up to Sister Ray's 2022 debut full-length Communion, which was one of the best albums of that year, as well as their 2023 Teeth EP. Produced by Jon Nellen (Big Thief, Nick Hakim), the new LP — which sees the artist expand the pared-down palette of their debut into richer sonic terrain with more density-forward arrangements — includes the recent single "Animal Thing."

"I've always been the kind of person that wants to believe in some kind of salvation or truth, and can't quite make myself believe all the way," Coyes said of the album's reedy, heaving-chested title track. "When I wrote this song I wanted to write about the liminal space that exists there, and the way it weaves itself into the beginnings of love; wanting to know this kind of all encompassing safety and trust, but feeling alienated by my own skepticism."
