German post-exotica trio Saroos are set to return with, well, Return. This — the third collaborative album of Iso68's Florian Zimmer, Lali Puna's Christoph Brandner, and the Notwist's Max Punktezahl — is the full-length follow-up to their Odd Nosdam-produced album See Me Not, which was released stateside by Anticon in 2010. Return will be released by Alien Transistor, slated to hit the shelves in North America on September 17.
As they prep for the release of Return, Saroos have premiered the album's first video. Directed and edited by Anton Kaun, the visual accompaniment to the track "Spiaggia Di Pluto" is both creepy and trippy.
It consists of fuzzy fractions of recognizable forms, from lava flows to cultural rituals. The shots are saturated with a reddish hue, zoomed-in footage of another format, which adds a unique texture as recording and playback technology expose their mechanical limitations in the process of reproduction, like a photocopy of a photocopy. There seems to be some psycho-spiritual incantation in its images, like Stan Brakhage meets Kenneth Anger.
