Sweden-born, Whitehorse-based singer-songwriter Sarah MacDougall recently dropped her latest LP Grand Canyon, and she's followed up the album's release with a new video for "Malmö I Mitt Hjärta."
The track harkens back to the album's themes of living life to the fullest and finding the drive to dance despite the darkness. "The song is about letting go of the past," MacDougall tells Exclaim! "It's a love-song to a complex city that I have had a love/hate relationship with my entire life. As is the line in the song: 'I throw away my weapons — I'm done fighting with the shadows.'"
The accompanying visuals were directed by Prism Prize award winner Christopher Mills. They offer up a slow-moving video portrait that mirrors the "emotional catharsis" of the song.
It's a haunting clip that pairs gorgeously with the sweeping, orchestral, Swedish-sung song. Check out MacDougall's upcoming tour dates below, and scroll past those to watch the video premiere of "Malmö I Mitt Hjärta."
