Rina Sawayama is the latest singer to put her own spin on a Metallica track for the band's forthcoming tribute album, The Metallica Blacklist.

The British pop singer's take on the track is striking. Sawayama uses samples of Metallica's original track but swaps out the heavy metal sound for a poppy edge. The distorted take on the song reveals Sawayama's effervescent vocals and embraces the pure noise of it all with guitar shredding and crashing drums. As she said on Twitter, Sawayama clearly "understood the assignment."

The 53-track Metallica Blacklist features covers of every song from the metal band's 1991 self-titled record, also known as The Black Album. Contributions by Phoebe Bridgers, Weezer, Kamasi Washington, St. Vincent and Jason Isbell and Miley Cyrus have already been released, with tracks by PUP, Mac DeMarco, Alessia Cara and many more still to come.

Profits from every track will be spilt between Metallica's charitable foundation, All Within My Hands, and a charity of each artist's choice. Sawayama picked Positive East, which works in HIV support and prevention.

The Metallica Blacklist will be released on September 10.
