A host of artists are coming together to cover songs from Metallica's Black Album in celebration of the landmark release's 30th anniversary, and we now have new renditions of "Sad But True" from St. Vincent and Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit.
St. Vincent's cover of "Sad But True," which will also arrive on a Record Store Day 7-inch in July, features dark pop production and layered harmonies, while Isbell's take leans unapologetically into country. You can watch videos for each cover below.
These reworks will appear on The Metallica Blacklist, a massive 53-track covers collection that will also feature contributions from Weezer, PUP, Mac DeMarco, Kamasi Washington, Flatbush Zombies, Phoebe Bridgers and more. The album is out digitally on September 10, while 4-CD and 7-LP versions will arrive on October 1 through Metallica's own Blackened Recordings.
St. Vincent's recent album Daddy's Home found a home among Exclaim!'s 31 Best Albums of 2021 So Far, while landing her the cover of Exclaim!'s June issue.
