Reigning Sound Sign to Merge Records

North Carolina indie imprint Merge Records has a pretty stacked stable of artists as it is, with just a few of their mighty musical acts including Arcade Fire, Spoon, Destroyer, She & Him, Mountain Goats and Bob Mould. There's also the fact that the label was started by the members of indie rock gurus Superchunk. Well, you can now add Reigning Sound to that list.

Merge confirmed that it's nabbed the well-loved, Memphis-bred garage rockers for an upcoming LP. Details are scant, though it's slated for a 2013 release. Despite issuing an EP for Scion last year, the Greg Cartwright-led project haven't dropped a proper studio album since 2009's Love & Curses.

Along with Reigning Sound, Merge has also inked a deal with William Tyler — a move that seems like a linear business transaction, as the multi-instrumentalist plays in the long-running Merge act Lambchop. Most recently, they delivered this year's Exclaim!-approved Mr. M.

The singer-guitarist's full-length solo debut, the instrumental Behold the Spirit, came out in 2010 through his own Tompson Square imprint. Tyler's next full-length is also expected sometime in 2013.
