Reigning Sound Announce Merge Records Debut 'Shattered'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Apr 15, 2014

Having inked a deal with Merge back in 2012, Memphis garage rock favourites Reigning Sound have now formally announced their debut LP for the imprint, Shattered.

The album, their sixth overall and first since 2009's Love and Curses, hits retailers arrives July 15, and it's described as "a mixed bag of rockers, ballads, and something in between." The 11-song set was recorded at soul imprint Daptone's Brooklyn studio, with the sessions being engineered by Wayne Gordon.

Founder Greg Cartwright tracked the album with the current lineup of Dave Amels, Mike Catanese, Benny Trokan and Mikey Post, all of whom belong to Brooklyn soul unit the Jay Vons. You can sample the quintet's first preview from the platter, the smooth yet driving, organ-driven "Falling Rain," down below.

Reigning Sound also have a handful of U.S. tour dates ahead of Shattered's due date, and you can check out the show info beneath the album's tracklisting.

Despite not having issued a full-length in five years, Reigning Sound's Live at Goner Records LP was given a reissue earlier this spring through Goner.
