Pony Girl

"Candy" (video)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Sep 8, 2015

Arty Ottawa-based indie-pop unit Pony Girl are readying the follow-up to their 2013 debut Show Me Your Fears, but before Foreign Life arrives domestically on November 7, Exclaim! has the premiere of the band's new video for "Candy."

The song hears the group continuing to expand their sonic horizons, blending guy-girl harmonies, guitars, woodwinds and electronic samples together to craft a delicate, charming and spellbinding sound. The clip, meanwhile, was directed by the band's Pascal Huot and features a young lady entranced by a commercial for hot pizza.

"I wanted to explore an extremely mundane action — ordering pizza," he explained in a statement. "You might think it's a love story but it's just someone who really wants pizza."

"The visuals are inspired by the daytime TV that I watched growing up," Huot continued. "[In Cornwall] I would get a bunch of local shows from Rochester and upstate NY. They always had a larger than life feeling trying to sell you insurance or a car or whatever."

A slice of Hawaiian 'zza has certainly never seemed so satisfying, and you can drool over the delivered-to-the-door deliciousness in the player below. Scroll past the band's upcoming live shows with Old Cabin to get your first glimpse at the video for "Candy."
