With N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton having hit theatres today (August 14), plenty of fans are reminiscing over the gangsta rap icons' monumental impact. Being a fan since day one, Stones Throw head Peanut Butter Wolf has unearthed an ages-old cover of Eazy-E's game-changing "Boyz-N-the-Hood."
Peanut Butter Wolf unveiled the lost track in a blog post, which explains how he put it together with rapper Spunky Spunk Dogg while he was making tracks between classes as a student at Long Beach State. The 1987 recording predates the Peanut Butter Wolf moniker, with the producer then going by the name of Chris Cut.
Let's not fool around, this isn't as memorable or hard a recording as the original. Spunky Spunk doesn't possess the intensity of E, while the Wolf's production is especially skeletal, and lacks a bit of the melodic synth-skronk and various blips you may be accustomed to.
Either way, you can cruise down the street with the cover after pressing play down below.
