Nick Cave's second novel, The Death of Bunny Munro, is being adapted into a limited TV series by actor Matt Smith (House of the Dragon, Doctor Who), The Hollywood Reporter reports.

Smith will produce and star in the project as the titular Bunny Munro, a door-to-door beauty product salesman and self-professed lothario struggling with sex addiction who embarks on a road trip with his nine-year-old son amid coping with his wife's suicide.

"Finally, someone with the courage to take on this unholy tale," Cave shared in a statement. "I am thrilled that Sky and Clerkenwell Films are bringing Bunny to life, in all his flawed glory, and I can think of nobody better than Matt Smith to play him."

In a statement of his own, Smith called Cave's novel "a brilliant exploration of love, grief, and chaos. At its heart a deep, difficult, and tender story about a father and son, coping with loss and change."

Cave himself will executive produce the six-part series alongside director Isabella Eklöf, with writing by Pete Jackson (Somewhere Boy). The Death of Bunny Munro is set to begin filming next spring.
