Nicholas Krgovich Explores Los Angeles with 'On Sunset'

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jul 17, 2014

Last year, Nicholas Krgovich released the sparse acoustic album Who Cares?, and now the Vancouver songwriter — who has been a principal member of P:ano, No Kids and Gigi, in addition to working extensively with Nite Jewel and Mount Eerie — is following it up with a more lushly arranged collection. On Sunset is due out on September 23 through NK World Service.

The album was recorded with Colin Stewart (Black Mountain, Dan Mangan) and produced and mixed by John Collins (Destroyer, the New Pornographers). It sports cinematic orchestrations from composer Stefan Udell, with the city of Los Angeles providing the album's thematic inspiration.

A press release calls it "a lonely, glamorous, late-night answer to a city's seductive and endless sprawl; the long shadows of palm trees on the red carpet; being lost in a place where everything is happening, where people are dreaming and making things that capture the world's attention."

The portrait-style album cover is above and the tracklist is below. At the bottom of the page, hear the lush, melancholically upbeat soft rock cut "Along the PCH on Oscar Night." Also below, check out an album trailer that pairs the track "At Pershing Sq." with funny footage from A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge.
