Montreal's Bleu Nuit Premiere "Trou Noir" Video

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Feb 21, 2019

Montreal post-punk outfit Bleu Nuit will release their new album Le jardin des mémoires this spring, and they've offered up an idea of what to expect with a video for the latest single "Trou Noir."

The title translates to "black hole," and conjures the imagery of a vast empty space that sucks you in and doesn't let you out. According to the band, it's also a metaphor for the feeling of being pulled into adulthood and feeling suffocated by responsibilities.

Like the rest of the upcoming LP, "Trou Noir" was produced by Malajube's Julien Mineau. The video, meanwhile, was directed by Liam Hamilton.

"I tried to echo the single sentence of the tune with various evolving animation loops," Hamilton tells Exclaim! "The environments are always mutating between familiar and unknown structures, and nothing repeats. Like if your subconscious knocks at the backdoor."

Watch that idea come to life onscreen via kind-of-NSFW black-and-white animation in the video for "Trou Noir" below.
