Montreal synthpop trio Le Couleur are taking listeners on a grand disco voyage with "Désert." The seven-minute single comes from their upcoming album, Concorde, and Exclaim! has the premiere.
The song begins as a Francophone disco banger, its modern spin on lush '70s dance grooves bringing to mind late-period Stereolab or mid-'00s Belle and Sebastian. Things take an epic turn in the second half, as the rhythm slows and gives way to a towering guitar solo and harmonized psych-pop refrains.
The band said in a statement, "In the vastness of life, this song is a musical painting of a desert where one always crosses paths with mirages that represent a death that haunts you and attracts you with gorgeous assets."
See the lyric video below. Concorde will be out on September 11 via Lisbon Lux Records.
